How it works
This tool brings four types of conversion together in one place: weight, volume, area and speed. You choose a category, type a value, pick the source unit, and immediately see the equivalent in every other unit of that category.
Behind the scenes, each unit has a factor relative to a reference unit. The value you type is first converted to that reference and then spread across the rest. That's what keeps conversions accurate even for uncommon pairs — ounces to grams, acres to hectares, knots to km/h.
Because the result appears as a list, you don't have to choose a destination unit: they all show at once, so just read the row you need. Everything is calculated in your browser, with no wait.
When to use
Unit conversion comes up in every field. In the kitchen, when following a foreign recipe that uses ounces or gallons. In home improvement, comparing areas in square meters and square feet. On the land, working with hectares and acres. In sport and tech, reading speeds in mph, m/s or knots.
Having the four categories together avoids searching for a different tool for each type of measurement. It's especially handy for students, and for anyone in logistics, construction and trade who needs to translate a measurement that arrived in an unfamiliar unit.
Practical examples
A recipe in ounces
A recipe calls for 8 ounces of an ingredient. Selecting "Weight", typing 8 and choosing ounce as the source, you instantly see it equals about 226.8 grams — ready to weigh on a kitchen scale.
Land in acres
A listing describes a plot as 2 acres. Under "Area", that corresponds to roughly 8,093 m², or about 0.81 hectare — numbers that make more sense to anyone used to the metric system.
Common mistakes
The most common mistake is confusing similar-looking units from different systems. A weight ounce isn't the same as a fluid ounce of volume; the US gallon differs from the imperial gallon. This tool uses the US units, the most common in the content that circulates internationally, but it's worth checking where your measurement came from.
Another slip shows up with speed: meters per second and kilometers per hour measure the same thing, but the numbers look very different (1 m/s is 3.6 km/h). Seeing a low value in m/s and assuming it's "slow" without converting leads to misreadings.
There's also the matter of rounding. Conversions between systems rarely give round numbers — 1 pound is 453.59237 grams, not 450. Using crude approximations accumulates error over large quantities, which is why the tool works with the full factors.
Frequently asked questions
How many grams are in a pound?
One pound equals about 453.6 grams. It's the weight unit used in English-speaking countries and appears often in recipes and imported products.
What is the difference between a hectare and an acre?
Both measure land area. A hectare is 10,000 m², while an acre is about 4,047 m². So one hectare equals roughly 2.47 acres.
How do I convert km/h to m/s?
Divide the km/h value by 3.6. So 36 km/h equals 10 m/s. The tool does this automatically when you select the speed category.
Does the tool use US or imperial gallons?
It uses the US gallon, the most common in internationally circulating content. If your source uses the imperial gallon, the values will differ slightly.
